Default The Japanese Continue to Ramrod Their Quick Charge

Nissan has introduced a new version of their quick charging station that is half the size and 4500 Euros less than the previous version.

The SAE has not yet produced a standard for Level 3 charging, but if it doesn't move quickly its "standard" may become irrelevant, as the Japanese seem intent on ramroding their standard globally. Giving them an early advantage on what is a very expensive chunk of the EV charging infrastructure.

Level 3 charging is not something that will be used on a daily basis by EV owners, at least not with existing battery technology. It is something that would probably be used by EV owners when traveling from city to city, instead of within a single city. Using Level 3 charging on a regular basis voids the warranty on the Nissan Leaf.

The SAE is not expected to produce a L3 standard until 2012.
