Washington Post - Germany to Close Nuke Plants by 2022

I think this is an over reaction to the Japanese disaster. We need changes in the nuclear sector. Most importantly we need to figure out something to do with spent fuel rods other than have them sitting around in pools in the plants.

The plan had been to dig a hole out West and bury the waste, but that has fallen through. The other alternative is recycle and reenrich the rods and use them.

This is sad to see, people need to educate themselve in nuclear technology. Heck hydro power has killed more people than nuclear. The big thing this story does not touch on ate that the plants Germany plans to close are older Gen I plants. These should be closed at this point no question.

What needs to happen is investment needs to be increased for Gen IV nuclear technology and start building Gen III+ plants. Gen III+ plants have very limited amounts of spent fuel and produce an exponentially larger amount of power for the fuel they use.

Once fussion becomes feasable, the need to power will be solved. We just have to get to that point and fusion is really the only way.

Sorry, but I think I will be long dead and gone before we see any fusion-source electricity hit the grid.
