In case you missed it, Lee Spieckerman went on Fox and Friends with Steve Doocy and shot great big gaping holes in every criticism Fox ever laid upon the Volt. It was so very remarkable that it was almost hard to believe you were hearing it correctly. In the States we simply are not accustomed to people coming on to our "news" broadcasts and saying "umm right, everything we've been saying for the last year, please disregard." I suppose this is the kind of thing you run into when you are a propaganda machine posing as a news organization.
Spieckerman even referred to the things previously said on Fox about the Volt as "myths." Yes that's right, myths! The word myth starts with "m" and that is just one letter away from "L" and the "L" word.
I mean did we just slip into the twilight zone or what? What's up at Fox? Who knows. Clearly however they were laying some serious ground work for giving credit for the Volt to Republicans, Bush, and of course Conservatives. Within a week or two I would not be surprised to learn that in fact the Volt was designed and developed in some back room at the Fox studios.
According to this broadcast the only thing holding back the Volt, has been the taint from its association with Obama. At this point, even the casual observer of Fox will be ROFLTAO because of course it is Fox itself who has toiled long and hard to carefully cultivate this um, what’s the word…oh right this myth of the Volt being forced upon us and GM by Obama.
But why now? There was no explanation given for this sudden change of heart. Theories abound about marketing departments or legal departments making threats.
The theory that makes the most sense to me is that because of the gas spike March is going to be a huge sales month for the Volt. Gas typically does not go down in price until the fall, thus it looks like sales for the Volt could be very strong right through Spring and Summer. Perhaps Fox decided if you can't beat it to death with the myth baton then maybe you better take credit for it. Classic move really.
It would be fun if some big time journalist dug into this and found out why this sudden reversal. Chris Woodyard of USA Today Fame you like a good Volt beating as much as any journalist perhaps you would like to do some digging and figure out why the USS Volt Hater is now minus one very big passenger.
Gavin Conway over at thechargingpoint.com did an excellent and much less sarcastic summary of the clip, check it out here:
