FFEV Nuggets from ApteraForum.com

I have been a member of the Aptera Forum for years, hoping that I could one-day own an Aptera 2e. An inept board of directors and the more-inept management team they hired have assured that the 2e will never reach production.

The good news for Ford Focus Electric Vehicle fans is that the quality of the posts at ApteraForum.com was way above average. Some very smart members were very active and included many, many posts about Aptera "competition". Several threads over there were dedicated to the FFEV. Over the next few weeks, I will cross-post links and text that I think would be of interest to members of this forum.

Let me start with links to some great interior photos from the CES rollout.

And a shot I presume is computer-generated of the chassis and power train

Well that reveals that the battery mass is at the rear axle solely. I think Ford is right in not investing to engineer a pure BEV ;) I guess the turnover with BEVs will be small given the reluctance to introduce more severe environmental zones.
A true BEV would be much lighter and have better insulation for the winter and not that much pressure on the rear axle...

Sharing major components like body parts, most of the interior, etc. with a gas vehicle saves a tremendous number of $ over developing a completely new car from scratch. But I do wish they had done a better job of it. That hump is a real "buzz killer" if you know what I mean.

randyd - That "hump" is not a deal breaker for me. If you look closely you will see that most of the battery is down low below the rear seat and out of the way. I prefer the look of the Focus to the Leaf. I like the Battery temperature management, and the faster level 2 charging. I like the chance to support an American manufacturer who is finally making a car that I want. So, it doesn't make a "statement" like my Prius. I don't care about that. I fully expect that the Focus EV will be outstanding in the handling department.

Allan
