Nice post on Car Fanatics detailing how Ford chose the location for the charge port on its upcoming fleet of electrified vehicles.
I think Chevy and Ford have it right with the charge port on the driver's side fender. Nissan, once again, in its rush to be first to market has sort of dropped the ball with its location choice, front and center.
Another well thought out move on Ford's charge port is the way the charge port door swivels to reveal the port. Since space is at a premium in many garages, not having a charge port that swings out is critical. There have been reports already of some Volt charge port doors being knocked off as owners try to squeeze around the open port door.
That said, Ford's charge port has a ring around it that lights up in "quarters" to represent 25, 50, 75, and 100 percent state of charge. This is a nice feature, but that may not be the most visible spot for charge status indicator lights.
