Ford has finally revealed what the Focus Electric will look like exterior and interior.

All the pictures are here:

I think Ford has done a great job with the appearance of this car. It is sleek and technical and no weenie-mobile like the Leaf.

Now if I could only find out how to get one!

The LEAF is a great car; I've driven one. The only question is whether Nissan can deliver the Lithium battery packs as cheaply as Nickel, which last over 100,000 miles -- and recycle profitably.

I like the Ford idea, where the same basic car will be available in fossil-burning, plug-in hybrid and all-electric format. I be one of the first to buy the all-eletric version, if and when it's ever offered for sale.

Congratulations to Ford for its revival, and for its good intentions to bring an all-electric to market. Those who have rooftop solar systems, can use the money they DON'T spend on gas to pay for their solar system!

Hundreds are now doing so, in California, using their Toyota RAV4-EV all-electric (last sold in Nov., 2002) to live essentially OIL-FREE for most driving (and except, of course, for using plastics, which are derived from oil, and all the other use of oil that's embedded in our industry. But we're moving in that direction!).

Go FORD!!

Does anyone know if the Focus Electric has a spare tire?

When I drove the Leaf last November I couldn't find a spare, and the Nissan reps owned up that the Leaf does not have one.

Woody - I have assembled lots of pictures of the inside of the Focus Electric and I see less space for a spare than in the Leaf. I doubt that there will be a spare tire. Come to think of it, it has been more than twenty years since I have needed a spare tire. Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems usually give you advance warning. It is possible to get a flat, however, the odds of that are getting low.

I don't think it will be a problem. I drive a Mini now that came with run-flat tires originally. Now it has regular tires, and I carry a combination air pump/sealant system made by Continental Tire Co. Available at Tirerack.com. No flats yet in 6 years.
