Default Re: Wait List?

We found out last week Mullinax Ford in Orlando has been selected to be a Ford Focus Electric retailer. Ford is giving us a few orders initially for this fall. The order bank has not opened yet for them to be placed.
Mullinax Ford had to register to be a retailer and pay a lot of money. Ford uses part of the charge to hold a training session with the technicians from participating dealerships. We usually have to fly the technician to another state for the training. At least that is what we did with the Ford SVT and 6.7L Diesel training.
Ford is going all out to make sure the launch is seemless. They have been working with local government and utility companies in the 16 cities chosen to ensure the electric grid can handle the demand. Not to mention partnering with Best Buy to sell the "at home" chargers. With the 240v charger, the car can charge in 3-4 hours for less than $4!! Awesome.
Mullinax Ford is proud to be a retailer of the Focus Electric. Just wish we got more than a few orders to start.
We are not sure how those initial orders will be handled. We do not have a waiting list set up yet. You can log onto http://www.mullinaxford.com for updates. I will try to update the website as Ford gives us more information. Hope the info helps.

Kimber thanks for the update. This is very exciting.

"Mullinax Ford had to register to be a retailer and pay a lot of money." The dealership had to register to handle the Focus Electric? Is that normal?

"Ford is giving us a few orders initially for this fall?" So that is orders to be built this fall for delivery at end of year? Typically how far ahead of time are you able to place an order in the order bank?

Thanks again.

Kimber,
You quoted:

Isn't Florida a pretty inexpensive state for electricity? If consumers pay about 0.09 per kWh and the Focus electric has a 23 kWh battery capacity and you would not use the whole capacity to charge, this would be about 18 kWh at about 0.10 per kWh or under $2.00 per charge. If the car can go 60 miles on a charge, this is a very good thing - where even a gas sipping Prius at 50 mpg would require more than 1.2 gallons of gas to go 60 miles at about $5.00.

Imagine what a FL homeowner could enjoy with a Solar PV array on the roof and electric-powered vehicle in the garage. Their annual gasoline usage could drop to near zero for most commutes and the cost to refill the car would be "free" using the Solar array. Net-cost of a Solar array allow for negative energy costs during the day to offset the nightly re-charging along with weekend daytime charging. Of for that matter, if someone works from home, they have an always-charged car ready to go.

Every EV that is sold is one small step towards lowering imported oil. Each barrel imported from anywhere affects the country's export/import ratio (even if it is from Canada or Mexico, our #1 and 2 oil sources).

* I just read that the Focus Electric does not have a range extender. This makes it harder for me to consider it as there will be times I need to drive 400 miles at a time. Will Ford be producing an EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) like the Fiskar Karma or Chevy Volt?

About a month ago I called all of the Ford dealers in the area. Of 6, there were 3 that were interested in starting a wait list with me at the top (the other three were clueless)

Probably not a bad idea to do this yourselves. If Ford decides to follow the Nissan example, not their implementation which was horrid, then you lose nothing. If Ford just allocates cars to dealers like a normal launch being first on the list in your area will be good.
